Empowering Communities and Saving Our Forests: A Journey of Sustainability in Africa
Welcome to my blog, where I share from my experience and passion for nature conservation and restoration advocacy in Kenya. Through my work with rural communities, particularly those living around forests, I have been dedicated to protecting and preserving our precious natural resources. #SaveOurForestsKE Campaign
One of the most impactful campaigns I led was the #SaveOurForestsKE movement in Kenya. This initiative aimed to address the critical issue of deforestation and its devastating consequences on our environment. By employing grassroots mobilization and a bottom-up approach, we successfully rallied support from local communities, environmental organizations, and concerned citizens. Our collective efforts culminated in a government ban on logging in national and community forests, marking a significant victory for nature conservation.

Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly
The global recognition of our #SaveOurForestsKE campaign led me to an extraordinary opportunity – speaking alongside climate activist Greta Thunberg at the United Nations General Assembly. It was an immense honor to share insights into the power of grassroots mobilization and emphasize the importance of involving local communities in environmental conservation efforts. This platform allowed me to amplify the voices of the communities I work with, putting their perspectives at the forefront of the international conversation on climate change and sustainability.

People Planet Africa - Empowering Rural Communities
In my pursuit of sustainable and inclusive development, I established and led People Planet Africa, a social enterprise focused on empowering rural communities. Africa’s rural populations constitute 70% of the continent’s people, and it is crucial to address their unique needs, challenges, and aspirations. Through close collaboration with these communities, we have implemented various initiatives, including climate-smart agriculture practices that help mitigate the impact of climate change while promoting food security. We also work with schools to plant fruit and indigenous trees, nurturing generations of environmentalists.

Environmental Sustainability and Beyond
Our work with People Planet Africa goes beyond agriculture, encompassing broader environmental sustainability efforts. We have actively engaged with local communities to promote eco-friendly practices, such as waste management, water conservation, and renewable energy adoption. By involving community members in decision-making processes, we ensure that our initiatives align with their values and contribute to their long-term well-being.

Guiding Government Agencies and Organizations
Recognizing the significance of sustainability integration across sectors, I have provided expert guidance to government agencies and organizations. By working closely with these entities, we have successfully incorporated sustainability practices into their businesses and operations, making significant strides towards a greener and more environmentally conscious future.

African Youth Front on Coronavirus
In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, I actively participated as a member of the African Youth Front on Coronavirus. The pandemic presented unprecedented challenges for Africa, and it was crucial to respond effectively. Through the platform, I collaborated with other young leaders to shape Africa’s response, addressing the pandemic’s impact on communities, healthcare, and the environment.
My journey as a nature and restoration advocate has been a deeply fulfilling one, driven by a passion for environmental conservation and community empowerment. From leading successful campaigns to being recognized on international platforms, I remain committed to the cause of sustainability and inclusive development in Africa. Together with the communities I work with, government agencies, and like-minded individuals, I believe we can create a brighter, greener future for our planet.
